Which consultant?
The four consultant HPB surgeons work very much as a team.
The consultant to whom you are referred will see you in clinic. If he advises surgery and you agree to undergo an operation, then that surgeon will perform your operation, unless you wish otherwise. However, if time constraints make that difficult, it may be suggested that one of the other consultants carries out your surgery.
If you are referred to us for cancer treatment, then your case will be discussed by several consultants at one of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, as described under 'Cancer Care'. However, whenever possible 'your' surgeon will still carry out any surgery that is planned.
